razor still pulls after hone
My razor seems to pass the tnt and tpt after honing on 4/8k, hht is no go, but it pulls and doesn't get every hair.
Any recommendations? more strokes on either grit?

Thanked: 95If the razors shaves, but pulls and misses hair, I would guess it's not sharp enough, try one conservative pyramid and see if it helps.

Any advice would be good, maybe a certain number of strokes that work for you when it is near sharp?
i'm going to try the conservative pyramid and see how it goes.

I do the thumb nail test after the 4k not 8k, as i read it somewhere that it damages the edge. i do do the thumb pad test though, just shaved, not the sharpest, but better than the other day after doing conservative pyramid.
I will try the 8k for 100 at a time and see how that goes.
I do have CrO paste, i do about 40 on that then 60 on leather after honing.

Thanked: 95So the shave improved after one conservative, did you strop on CrO before your shave and did you feel any difference in the TPT?
I assume you still have a small "sharpness" problem, and sharpness is easiest to achieve at the 4K level as the 8K side has more of a polishing effect rather than sharpening.
If you don't want to use the pyramids, then you should start with a few laps (maybe 5) on the 4K side and then use the TPT to closely monitor the change in sharpness, before moving to the 8K and the CrO for the final polishing. This is the "progressive honing method" as described here.

I had one similar the other day and I did an aggressive pyramid on the 4/8 (as described in the Wiki tutorial). It was better but not there yet going by hair popping on my leg. None left on my arms. Then did one more aggressive pyramid and the hairs were popping. Did 20 laps on a finishing stone and got a great shave.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Do you have one of those cheapie magnifing loupes? A really close look at the bevel and edge can really help sharpening technique. At least it did for me.
Just a thought,
