Default how much should honing cost

Just picked up my first straight razor on ebay, a double arrow. I want it done right and want to get it honed. The seller says it does not need it, but I hear its recommended anyway.

What would be a price I should expect to pay to have this done?

About 20 bucks give or take. There's quite a few on this web site that would be willing. Lynn honed some for me and I was quite impressed. He's one of the Administrators on this site....Rich

P.S. A lot of sellers claim that their razors are shave ready. I guess people have different definitions of shave ready. Unless you buy a razor from someone you know, I would never consider it to be so. You're wise to think it's not. Of course, when you get it, you can do the tests, TNT, Check the WIKI.....

Between $0 and $100 depending on who you can get to do it and on whether or not the double arrow has any problems

In the classifieds here, several people offer to hone and strop your razor for $20 or just under $20. I suppose you've got to add shipping both ways to that.

i thought the TNT was for when setting or repairing the bevel, if the razor is sharp the HHT or TPT (again check wiki) is what i would use. if it is really sharp it should pop hairs with the HHT or test on the forearm with the edge slightly raised.

i paid $13 to have a razor honed but then there was shipping both ways on top of that. so about $25 total which was pretty good as far as i can tell.

I charge 10€ for a honing a flawless blade, and 15€ for restoring a bevel + honing. Postage not included.
Double Arrows can be very good shavers, but there are some issues to be dealt with.
I've posted about that in a recent thread: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...tml#post289932

You definitely need to have a Double Arrow taken care off, before you can shave with it. Stamps22 is a nice fellow, a fine seller, but I have to disagree with him on his statement that the Double Arrows come shaveready.

I charge $18 and that's middle of the road. I take the edge to a 30000 grit Shapton and people just grin and giggle when they see how that shaves. I also recommend to folks that they learn to keep that edge sharp and I help them with any coaching necessary to get to that level. You'll really enjoy shaving when you have an edge that just wipes the hair off of your face.
