The stone slurries to a light tan color. The stone is quire a bit lighter incolor in person. Look at the color of the slurry stone ad that is about the color of both it they are cleaned up. It is not quite yellow, but is not grey either. So here youhave why I posted it here.
It also may not be as coarse as it looks, there is still remnant of slurry on the stone. Those are very close up images taken on macro at about 2 inches from the stone.
I will get it cleaned and see how the lapping goes. The stone came from Le Cannet, France. The individual I traded with said it had come from a French Navy Hair Dresse/ Barber Mallet. Any idea what that means or doees that help at all?
Ihope to try it out in the near future.

more info after a trial run
A bit more info from lapping and putting a razor on it. I lapped the stone with 220 3m wet dry 3x paper. It was very easy to lap. Took about 15 minutes to lap both sides, it was relatively flat. When lapping the slurry produced was a very light tan color.
More stamping on one end shows 5 AAA. I took some pictures of the lapping slurry and the slurry produced by using the slurry stone, but I forgot to download form teh camera.
When the Genco razor was put on the stone it showed a scratch pattern similar to a norton 4K but a bit finer, using a 15x handlense it shows about the same depth but is more rounded. I only used it with a heavy slurry and it is a rapid cutter. It set the bevel nicely. It appeared to be a bit coarse with the heavy slurry, as I said just a bit finer feel than the 4k norton. I finished up the blade with the 8K norton and linen/leather strop. I will try to use the hone with water and dry as a test based on what some of you have posted recently.
I think I agree with this not being a coticle once it has been cleaned up. But I still do not know what it is. I guess time and more use will tell me if it is usable for me.

Hey thanks for the update and good luck with it. It will probably fit in somewhere in the progression once you get it figured out. May turn out to be a favorite.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
