    Okay, I'll have now got this idea in my mind;

    1. Get the razor, strop and a yellow Belgian home and see how things look
    2. Try stropping the razor and see if it wants to play ball
    3. In case that don't work out give it a few light swipes on the hone and see how that starts off.
    4. In case all else fail, I'll consider sending it of for a pro-hone.

    What do you all think?

    But, I agree that getting a factory fresh Dovo ready for shaving is a very minor operation. In fact, I'd try just stropping the razor first to see if that were enough.

    I know that in many cases a good stropping will work (depending on stropping skill, of course). I think to assume that the razor needs a honing out of the box, by default, is sort of like deciding to re-charge your car battery before trying to start the car.

    +1,
    I've only bought 1 razor requiring more than a light finish on a Coticule or Norton 8k. I believe honing ones honing skills on a general razor stone is the most important. My 2cents. MikeB

    For a no-lapping solution:
    DMT D8EE (W4EE costs less, but takes a bit more practice to work as well) and 0.5 chrome oxide.

    If it turns out that you don't like paste, or simply want a finer hone before using the paste:
    Add a fine barber hone (or any hone from about 12k to 16k) and a way to lap it (DMT D8C or wet/dry paper).

    All you need for a factory razor. If you start getting vintage, or other razors, with rougher-than-factory edges: add a DMT 1200 in the size you prefer.
