The Japanese collect stones strictly based on the color and patterns in the stone. Some go for thousands of dollars.

The stones shown are truly gems and my thanks to those who posted the very educational pictures. While certainly not comparable, this is my prettiest hone. At first I thought it was just a black Arkansas with inclusions but with some effort it produces a light gray slurry. I wetted it to enhance the figure, another mystery stone.

Guys - they are certainly lovely, but there is one who is in another league entirely. Sharon.

That is quite a coincidence! I also named my hone Sharon.

    Default Beautiful stones

The most visually beautiful hone in my collection is a Charnley Forest. It is a greenish color with dark maroon swirls and it looks very mysterious. Coticules with figure are also right up there and I've seen figure that varies from bacon stripes to what looks like Chinese characters. I also have a Blue Dalmore that is very pretty.

    Mine is blue.

These pics don't do it justice though. There's an irridescence to the stone when it's wet that the camera doesn't really capture.

Absolutely stunning stone, MParker. You're right, I never would have thought that the second picture showed a stone with iridescence since like you said the camera can't didn't pick it up. I have an idea of how beautiful it might be in person only because the Belgian Blue side of my combo coticule I've posted in this thread also has pearly iridescence that just lights up when it's wet. I can't get the camera to show it either.
