It is the spf_Xhone.pdf file, the first one.
D/l, change the extension from spf_Xhone.pdf to spf_Xhone.avi

Thanked: 0I'm sorry, but I can't find it anywhere. I don't show any photos section or video section, and looked through most everything that looked like it might contain the file you mention. No cigar.

I have watched this new x pattern for honing numerous times now and I just don't get it. I am trying to figure out why this is better than just going straight across (if you have a solid 3 inches). With this animation you have part of the blade on the stone and part off. Doesn't this lead to uneveness since the top part always seems to be in contact with the stone while the bottom 2/3 is on sometimes and off others. ????????

RichZ,
I have a three inch hone, and the first animation i did was with the blade angled 30-45 degrees, and going straight across, the way i hone. I will post that too.
Now, in the standard textbook of barbering, there is a picture explaining a well honed blade geometry. The blade honed the propper way should have slightly curved arc. That arc is nessesary for a good shave. Now i think since the top of the blade is spending more time on the hone, it will be honed more, thus creating the arc. You can also create this arc by warying the pressure on the blade on the point and the end of the blade. I think that the smaller hones in the past were deliberately made smaller, to force the X pattern. I think the other way, when the blade is angled, and goes straight, is easier, and that is the way i hone. For now.
You just have to sellect the way that works for you.

Superfly,
Thanks. I was just wondering. I think I still like the straight across on the 3" though.
