Thanked: 0Well, can't try refund because I already send the razor to the seller who send it to the manufacturer who said it's ok, lol :?
I really don't think it's warped. I placed it against a very fine glass table top and couldn't see even a slightest gap between the edge and the table.
I also tested my hone by soaking it and sticking it underside the very same table top. It got stuck real hard on the 8000 side, but not quite on the 4000 side. The 4000 side looked quite smooth however.
Still can't understand why the center of the edge is honed more than tip and heel on the other side while the other side looks quite perfect. Could it be that the spine is uneven?

Thanked: 0Monco, it could be that your razor has bad geometry from the day it was created. That could account for some of the problems that you have been having. It could also just be bad steel. Although I haven't run into this with new stainless razors, as I usually purchase older razors or else high grade new ones, I have run into several solingen steel stainless steel knives that are impossible to put a good edge on. The steel is just junk. If this is the case, no amount of honing will make the razor serviceable. While I hope this is not the problem in your case, just beware that it is possible. If you have reached the stage where it shaves arm hair, you should be able to take it the rest of the way using your 4k/8k hone and a good strop. Stropping may also be your problem. The difference in having a razor that slices through hanging hairs effortlessly and one that won't cut even one, can be caused simply by differences in stropping equipment and technique. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanked: 0I can buy a razor from Lynn (if he wants to send it to Finland), he seems to have some quite affordable razors for sale.
Could you please recommend me a good razor from these. I have a thick and heavy beard and I think a larger blade (if any available, I dunno) could suit me well. Spike points are scary but perhaps usable.
Genco Henry's XX-$40
Union Cutlery-Red Handle-USA Made-$35
Genco Heavy-Fancy Black Handle-$45
Korn-Red Handle-Little Valley NY-$45
Simmons Barbers Pet-$35
BTW, my razor indeed is a new, Solingen-branded, stainless steel razor, and it wasn't very expensive either, about 38 euros = $ 45. And it's a completely unknown brand to me, "Nippes-Solingen".

Thanked: 2209If you have a thick, heavy beard ask Lynn or any of the other's who sell razors for a 1/2 or 1/4 hollow razor of 5/8ths or larger size. Your beard would require a blade that does not flex as much as a full hollow grind.
Hope this helps,Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin
