    Default Which DMT?

I know this is a noob question, but I want to get a bevel setting stone that cuts a bit faster that the Norton 1000. I think a DMT 1200 would do that, but there seem to be a couple of models, one that is just a basic block shape and another with a perforated aluminum cover over the diamond matrix. Which one should I use, or would either do the job?

    Thanks.

My preference is the continuous plate. The perforated one will work I'm told but the solid one is better IMO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

For actual razor honing, I prefer the continuous grit.

I also like the continuous ones. With regards to size, since you're going to be setting bevels, I would really suggest going with the 8 inch one. I have a 6, and I find it too small for honing purposes.

I have both types in 2"x6". They both work fine. I still use the continuous at least three times as often. I think it has a better "feel"; not sure why.

i may tell you something and it will make you think about. dmt 1200 will not be faster the norton 1000.
Let me explain this a little.
AFter you get dmt 1200 you will need to brake in to use it.
when we do brake in i don't think dmt 1200 acts real 1200 grit.
This may sound crazy but this is what i have noted recently. My dmt 1200 now leave such a nice edge i am getting confuse. Acts like 8000k

    Now you decide.

I have the d8e in both 8" and 6". Both have their uses. I like the 6" for most purposes. Might end up selling the 8", its heavy.

I've only used the 6 inch and have never had any issues with it. Whether or not it's faster than the Norton 1K I can't say, never used it.

Hones sell pretty well here, if you get the DMT and don't like it you can sell it on the classifieds for only a small loss.

I dont know if you are partial to dmt but Lynn gives good reviews of the naniwa super stones as faster cutters than nortons...

I will defer to the DMT guru's when it comes to those... BUT
Man how many razors are you honing per day that you need a faster cutter than the 1k Norton???? Or are you making razors so you need something to do a initial bevel cut????? Just curious????
