I'm with Glen and Joke on the stropping. I only use paste on really tough edges like some of the harder stainless like S30V or ATS-34 and some, but not all, Damascus. Once in awhile I would finish honing a razor and strop and shave and find the first pass wasn't smooth enough. I would go to the chrom ox on a flatbed or loom strop before the second pass. That always helped.

Lately I haven't had to do that but when I do I have had better luck with the 0.5 diamond spray than the paste. May be because of my application of the paste ? One way or the other the spray on the SRD felt hanger is great for when I use it. Even better than the chrome ox was. YMMV.

So do you think i would have better luck over all adding another finishing hone, maybe naniwa 12k and avoiding pastes. Unless necessary?

Also.. with a chinese 12k do i need to worry about anything other than paste?

How about just shaving with those edges a second time and seeing if they've calmed down due to shaving and stropping? Just an idea...
