Thanked: 171100x shots of thuringians including escher
So I was just taking a look at my first escher under 100x with my little hand held microscope and comparing it to an unlabeled vintage thuringian that I got from our very own gugi and a celebrated water razor hone that came in a wooden box. The escher is actually the E&Co celebrated water razor hone seen here. You can find pics of the thuringian from Ivan and the celebrated water razor hone here.
To the naked eye, the three stones look more or less the same. Maybe some very slight differences in color/hue, but virtually identical. Under both 60x and 100x I also can see absolutely no differences, but I'll admit I'm no geologist, my microscope is a cheapo $10 one, and I'm not sure I would even know what to look for.
I haven't had the chance to try the escher yet (maybe tomorrow morning), so only time will tell how it stacks up to the other two (which seem to be quite similar to each other in performance so far).
Anyway, the reason I'm posting this at all is because I figured "what the hell" and aimed my digital camera at the eye piece of the microscope. With the camera zoomed in, surprisingly, it was actually able to capture the shots. They aren't the clearest/best pics, but you can get the idea.
Just thought I'd share..
The 6x1+ vintage thuringian (unlabeled):
The 5x1 "the celebrated water razor hone" that came in the box:
The 7x1.5 E&Co escher with blue back label "celebrated water razor hone":

They all look mighty similar. I have a Celebrated in Dark Blue but only a 30x lens. Probably would look no different under your lens. Mine is different than a Muller Thuringan though, under the lens and to the naked eye.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks for the pics! You can NEVER look too closely at a nice stone if you ask me.
I have a couple of thuringians as well, both Celebrated Water Razors Hones in fact. One has a label on the back, much like your's, and one in a little box, what do you know, also kinda like your's!
My little one in the box in a really dark colour, but it looks very similar under magnification to your pictures. The other one is a yellowish-green and actually looks a little different under the scope from what I can see. But I can only go as high as 30x....
Do you have any other high grit natural stones you can compare magnifications of? (i.e. coticule, chinese, etc...)

Here are some shots that Tim Zowada took. I think they were placed in the Wiki but I can't find them there.
