Any place for 2K Super Stone?
Hey guys, I apparently am getting a couple of Naniwa super stones--an 8K and a 2K (they were DEAD cheap...about $60 for the pair because they are the thin versions.)
I only got the 2K because they didn't have a 1k in the thin, and I needed another stone to bump me over $50 to get free shipping (or at least that's how I justified it to myself). So now my question is, could this stone work as a bevel setter? I understand that the super stones are fairly fast...would that make up for the difference in grit from a 1/1.2K stone?
In the Wiki, Glen mentions using a 2K to help finish the bevel and "align the edge to the stones"...is it at all beneficial?
I'm just wondering how to put it to best use...
Thanks!
Jim

Thanked: 13245I was referring to Shapton's as they have a tendency to not play well with others except the 16k...
So if you were bevel setting on another brand of stone the Shapton 2k is rather beneficial to bring the striations into the "Shapton" fold.... On the other hand if you are bevel stetting on the Shapton 1k their whole game plan so to speak calls for "double up" 1k 2k 4k 8k 16k and it should be a 32k
I am not sure about the Naniwas.... and how they do with other stones in the mix...

i just test them in our meeting . They are great stones. you can use them from start to end . 1k or 2k will help you put bevel and 12 k for final touch . i am planning to buy myself.
The best way to understand stones person needs to use it and then see what it does. they are really fast cutters and light weight. i was keeping then in my hand and didn't feel any weight.

1k is great for wedge bevels.
