    Default Modern Barber Hone

What would be the modern equivalent to a Swaty or similar hone?
A friend of mine wants all new gear to start out straight shaving. He will start with a shave ready razor.

They don't make barber hones anymore.
if you want another hone will do the same job as swaty then check SRD FOR 12K SUPERSTONEs.

    Thanks!
I thought that would be about right, but wasn't sure.

There's also the Chinese 12K from Woodcrafters. IIRC, it's a bit less expensive.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with old gear. There's a reason Swaty made over 5 million hones.

The reason is, people figured out that they were great hones. They still are, and relatively speaking, for maintenance only, they are still a great and effective bargain.

He's one of those people that wants only new, I couldn't sell him a Nox-all of mine even for a real good price. Personally the only thing I would buy new would be the strop and the brush.

Now now...let's be generous. Some people have "things". I have "things" about spiders and hand washing...who am I to judge?

Anyway, here's a bit of a sidetrack, though not entirely.

In a PM conversation, a member recently asked me about a "Punjab Barber Hone" that a barber had shown him in a catalogue. I said I didn't know anything about it, but that if it wasn't widely used, and it was anything at ALL like the Zeepk hones, then it should maybe be avoided. However, that hone has been niggling at the back of my head for a while, so I did a google search, and look what I turned up...
The link in that ancient thread is dead, of course, but the limited info looked promising. Does anyone know ANYTHING more about that hone? it might be the "new" barber hone that people are wanting.

If so, I might owe someone an apology...

How new can a rock be? Have him get a coticule and tell him it's new.

I was being facetious about the t-shirt, but I don't really see much difference between a new and old hone.

Anyway, about the Punjab, I'll try to remember to take a picture of one for you.
