Filharmonica 7/8
Well, I worked and worked on it, and finally got it to where I thought I had it. But when I tried it this morning, it was ALMOST there, but not quite. I finished up with my Revisor, and it is back to the hone. It seems pretty temperamental. If I stroke it VERY light (i.e. the weight of the blade only) it seems to sharpen on the Norton 8000... but I have a hard time keeping it flush that way. If I put my finger on it, with even just the TINIEST amount of pressure to keep it flush to the surface of the hone, then it gets duller.

Thanked: 2209Wire edge?
Try 3-5 back honing strokes followed by 5 regular edge leading strokes on the hone. Then test shave. See what happens.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Eureke It is Finally Sharp
I finally got my Fil sharp after seems like a month. In the process I honed my skill at honing learning techniques I did not know before. I think I am beginning to get it and once the blade gets super sharp the tree stumps on my face come off like cutting butter. I have also learned a bit about patience--something that does not come easy for me. Thanks all for your help and encouragement.

Congrats, James. Welll done. I agree. It does take an enormous amount of patience for the post modern man, but the payoff is worth it. The satisfaction of knowing you are in command of the steel with which you shave is empowering.
