Thanked: 317They're really not that expensive. The cheapest thing you can get that will do the job is the 220/1k and 4k/8/ norton combos, which at the absolute cheepest runs about $115.
A 1k, 4k and 8k shapton + a 325 grit DMT for lapping and replacing the norton 220 will run about $100 more than that without even attempting to find a good deal, just taking a link from one of the sponsors on this site.
I got in on a goot sale a while back and got the 1k, 4k, 8k AND 16k shaptons to take me well past what the nortons are capable of for only $205, plus another $40 for a 325 grit DMT of amazon. I could have skipped the 16k and only paid $20 or $30 more than I would have to go the norton route.

That's a good question. Maybe the engineering? There great though! Howard could answer this question. He knows a lot about Shaptons. If you think Shapton are expensive. Take a look at some of Japan Tool's Nakayama's. 2000.00 USD, I'm not kidding.
I would think for that much, it would be self honing....ha....

I'm just such a fan of the Naniwas that I suspect for many, to try them is to buy them.

One of the forum members here by the name of jendeindustries runs his own business by the same name and recently had a a 25% off sale on all shaptons for SRP members. http://straightrazorpalace.com/vendo...ndustries.html
As far as I know, that sale is over, but it can't hurt to send him a PM and see if he can make you a deal. The worst he can do is say no.
My 4k ended up being back-ordered for an extra 10 days or so, but I got top notch service from him before and after the sale, and I would gladly work with him again, even at full price.
