    Default Thanks ChrisL

Made a purchase of a hone from ChrisL. It arrived in it's original 1900's box which needed some tending. I realise some may have said leave well enough alone but I reglued and clamped the joinery and refinished the sad looking exterior. A fine sanding and high gloss varnish really brought out the old stains and such. It's a fine looking package now. Chris suggested I post it here when done. Now... I just await the arrival of the razor so I can get on with the rest of the process!

I have to agree, the hone is the point isn't it?

I absolutely love the way you did the box, has a nice polished look.
I hope you varnish the inside... to make it waterproof.

Though you may want to hand hold the hone while you touch up the razor, you could put on some rubber feet on the box so it won't slide around while resting on that smooth table (glass top?).

I indeed did varnish the interior! I didn't think about the rubber feet because I thought the stone was removed from the box when honing... at least that was the impression I got from one of the Lynn A. videos I watched on You tube. He placed the stone on a rubber mat of sorts and honed on the table or his lap, if I recall correctly... thanks for the tip though!

    Thumbs up

Excellent! I'm not usually a fan of high gloss, but this does make me reconsider what I should do with my own old hone boxes.

funny you say that, I'm not a huge fan of HG either... I just happened to have some left over from an exterior job so rather than buy a new litre of varnish...
