    Default Smooth Shaves

I've shaved with about a half dozen razors now and they're all a bit different.

The Dubl Duck and Böker both shave excellently well and wonderful smooth without even quite being able to split the hair. I've been shaving with these the most because they're such a treat.

The Henckels both shave excellently well also and have super hair popping edges. They came that way, but still seem to feel a little coarser somehow. So does the W&B however I produced the edge myself from scratch (lol).

I think that the steel must play a big part, but I'm wondering how much might be my honing technique. I mean, if I could get the edge a little smoother on these last three blades do you think they might smooth out like the other two German blades or are they doomed to remain less than perfectly smooth for material construction reasons?

Each of them will probably feel a bit different no matter what because of the material used in the blades.
But they should all become shaving sharp. Just keep on honing the less than perfect razors, a little at a time, and see what the change is.

I have to agree that every brand of razor shaves a little different. I know that sharp is sharp but I can take two razors and both give equally outstanding shaves yet one is smoother or just feels different as you shave.

I have about 35 razors and a full suite of DDs and they all shave wonderfully and hone easily though the wonderedge takes a little more time than the others. The difference between the DDs is very minor they all feel very similar.

As you change brands you appreciate the quirks from one to the other. I guess the holy grail of shaving is to have a razor that gives an outstandingly close shave, is so comfortable you can't even feel it on your face and hones easily and like a dream. Are there really any razors like that out there. Some of mine come awfully close but I don't know that any fill the bill 100%. So the point is, no matter how much of a honemeister you are can you get every razor to meet the holy grail if your willing to put in the time and have the skill?
