    There have been some issues with the Shapton 15K made for the American market. It's different from the 12k Japanese market stone but I am not sure how exactly. There is extensive discussion on knifeforums about stones. Pay particular attention to a poster named Yuzuha. This particular stone has it's own thread showing scratch patterns compared ot other stones.
