Default When a razor finally comes right

I bought an $10 beater off a fleamarket table a couple of months ago. When I'd cleared the rust it turned out to be a 20th cen. English blade made by someone called Alfred Williams, and though I used it a couple of times after I'd honed it, it never really performed all that well.

A couple of days ago I thought to myself "Backhone that thing for a dozen laps on the barber's hone and then take it to the pasted strop for a few more laps" Well I did, and when I shaved with it this AM it was just as sharp and nearly as smooth as the best razor I've got.

The thing is, it never really behaved like it was overhoned - just like the bevels were rough and it was not quite sharp enough. So the backhoning was an inspired guess I suppose.

It always pleases me whan a razor comes right.

    Best Regards
