Thanked: 2209My comments are based upon what I have read in the posts of the various forums which reflect specific knowledge from barbers and expereince from users. Hair does have a scale structure which runs in a specific direction according to those who make their living in the barber industry.
I have found that it makes a big difference in the test, when I use my hair, when the root end is pointed out. With my hair the curvature also makes a difference. Perhaps this is due to the fineness of my hair. Doing it this way was not something I invented. I learned it over on the Yahoo SRP site some time ago and it works, consistently. For some guys, it will not matter because of the thickness or consistency of their hair and for some, it will not work at all because of the fineness of there hair.
I brought up these changes because of the desire that we have a consistent message to new guys. Here is a test, it is done in this specific way. As you know, the lack of specific's on honing has caused many a guy many hours of frustration. In fact, Lynn Abrams posted that the primary reason guys stop shaving with a straight is because of the difficulty in learning to hone. Well, one of the specifics is a set of tests to use during the process of honing to gauge our progress. Those tests must be done in a consistent manner if we are all to communicate and help each other.
You can make the graphic any way you wish of course but I will continue to say, in all forums, root end out, curvature down, be consistent in your use.
I hope I have explained myself clearly and again thanks for all your efforts for this group,
