I'm not sure you'll find a video detailing the Hanging Hair Test. So, I'll do my best to describe it here...

The hanging hair test is performed by taking a clean hair, held by the thumb and forefinger (about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch exposed), and slowly bringing it down onto the razors edge when the razor is held edge side up. If the hair is cut off with a "popping" action/sound, it usually indicates that the edge is keen. However, that doesn't necessarily indicate that the razor is shave sharp. Only shaving with the razor will you know if it is shave sharp.

I hope this answers your question on the hair test. I'm sure other, more experienced, members will contribute to this reply if I missed something.

    Look at my signature.
The razor is held steady. The hair is moved down.

    Nenad,
Each time I try to open one of you videos, I get an 'error downloading codex', any ideas what I need to do to fix this? Anyone else have this problem?

Ed, that is because all my videos are coded (made) with XviD codec. That is the engine that "encodes" every movie you see around. The reason I use this codec is that it makes the smallest file with excelent quality. You can download the codec anytime, just google "xvid codec download" or something, and you will have no problem viewing the videos. I apologize to everyone having this problem...

    have fun,

    Hello Superfly,

I downloaded the codec and now your creations are working on my new computer. Once again thanks for your efforts!

Just a couple of points regarding your hanging hair test avi.

    1. The root end of the hair should be pointing out, not the tip end of the hair. Hair has a "scale" structure and it makes a big difference in the results.
    2. The hair sould be curved down, not up. Again because of the "scale" structure of the hair.

    Hope this helps,

    Randy Tuttle

    Thanx, Ed, Randy,

Randy, about the hair placement on the edge, I think I got it right, because that's the way your signature shows it, the flying hair part is pointed at the non-cut end, indicating the tip of the hair, so the hair is hold by it's root. And also that is the way the razor cuts the hair when shaving, the root is in the skin... I do this test hovering the razor in the very tips of my arm hair. The razor is sharp when catches plenty of them, and makes no pulling sensation on my hand, and when I do it the traditional one-hand hanging hair, the sharp razor doesen't care which end I am holding, it cuts the hair either way. About the curvature and scale structure of the hair, it makes no diference either...

The big blob is the root of the hair

    have fun,
    Nenad
