Thanked: 96Yeah, Aoto is looking like what I'll be wanting. I do worry that it might be a bit low grit. Will it really get me much further than a 1.2k DMT?

It helps with sharpening, surely. Mainly it is a good place to go from synthetic to natural. By having shallower scratches, theoretically, one can sharpen to a finer eventual edge. You are mainly removing the grooves from the 1200 DMT. Then it is time to move on to the medium finishing hone to finish sharpening.

Since you have a 4k King, I don't think the Aoto will be of any help to bridge the gap to your finisher, and the gap between your 1.2k to your 4k shouldn't need anything inbetween - that's not too much of a jump unless the 4k is very slow.
