Whatever one you feel more comfortable with will work best, but remember don't count, on the "count"

Start with 20 nice even X strokes on the 4k then see how that does, add in 5 at a time until it is popping arm hair above skin level, then do 20 laps on the 8k, strop and test shave half your face, you can always come back to a conservative pyramid after the test shave if needed and do the other half of your face for a test...

Once you feel good with the edge, there is a trick to get more smoothness out of the N8k..

When you are done with test shaving clean off the 8k and rinse with water, take your finger and squeegee off the excess, now start doing very light very perfect X strokes very slowly... The stone should go to almost dry at about 15 laps or so, stop yer done !!!!!
