    Thumbs up

I've been practicing with eBay razors and the starter hones I got from Tilly. I just recently got my Norton 4/8K and I've seen a marked improvement in my skill. I'd say I can manage to put a decent edge on a razor with or without a good bevel to start given enough time.

No clue here yet, only have 1 and didn't need a hone on it yet, just pastes.

I lack both the skill and inclination to be a honemeister. Though I do own a hone, and as I look at it on the shelf now and again, I assure myself that I will someday get a few cheap razors and learn how.

So, I think I fall soundly in the "butcher" category right now!

I think there should be one more level. The "navel-lint" level for those of use who haven't tried to hone at all yet, but are buying hones in preparation to do so. You can't be a butcher until you try to cut something, no?

I went with 3/4 honemaster because it was described as "able to hone most razors" and since "most razors" are a basic full hollow 5/8 and that’s where all of my experience is so far I feel confident committing to that level.

Maybe 1/2 would have been a better choice in hind sight but I think any of us could hone most razors with a little patience and persistence.

Had to go with 1/2 honemeister, although I just recieved my pre-pasted strop from Tony, so I may come back and upgrade myself. This vote is soley based on my Norton honing abilities.

Well, heck. How sharp are you gonna say is enough?
I've got about 8 eBay specials that are at the point of cutting the hanging hair, some just barely and some better. I haven't quite gotten to the point where the hair "pops" in two, but they do slice apart.
I'm using Tillys 3 hone starter set, don't have a Norton or other large hone yet. Maybe if I get one I can get the extra keen edge to appear. Just have to wait and see.
