Default Cerium Oxide (CeOx) - alternative to CrOx?

Anybody have experience with this? Heard it was even better than CrOx - partially b/c .25 micron abrasive particle size vs. .50 micron size in the CrOx. Does it behave very similarly to CrOx? Also best as a finisher after sharpening (honing or pastes?)? Can it be used as a refresher? Thanks everyone.

I've never used it personally, but I have a razor finished on it by Glen. It is really really nice

I actually really like this stuff and keep a poly webbed strop pasted with it. I would not say I like it better than Chromium Oxide, but it works just as good in my opinion. I actually have used it after Chrom Ox with good results too. It will work for a refresh as well.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

Hmm - so is it six in one, half dozen in the other? Could you tell the difference in a blind test? (Just got me thinking - could you shave blind? Blind with that cigar still in your mouth? I could imagine some fun, and dangerous contests and hilarious pictures and videos....) Maybe certain razors like one or the other?

    Double checking....

    Name: Cesium
    Symbol: Cs
    ----
    Name: Cerium
    Symbol: Ce

Cerium Oxide is the fine abrasive used
in things like 3M film (0.3 micron).

CeO is used as polishing compound for optics, such as lenses mirrors etc.
The smallest I have seen is 30nm diameter.
Here they rate is as 200-10 nm

    Cerium

There are differences in this stuff the same as there are differences in CrOx... But using both of these in the 99%+ pure powder forms yes there is a huge difference in feel on the leather strops.... the CeOx is way smoother then the CrOx again there are many variables on pastes so YMMV...

Edit: If you are asking if you could tell the difference in a blind shave test ??? I doubt it, but if you are asking can you feel the difference on the strop the answer is yes....

It might be interesting to try this in combination with a Japanese natural (preferably suita).

Whoops on the element - I stand corrected. Cerium it us.

ALso, +1 on the last reply: why, in particular, do you suggest a japanese natural/suita?
