Thread: the 100 hone march

OK I admit it the whole 100 razor goal was my fault, but it was taken so far out of context it ain't even funny...

Somewhere back in a discussion with one of the various now gone Honsters I said "You should hone a 100 razors before you even think about saying you know anything about honing" we were talking e-bay razors here BTW, that somehow got turned into "If I hone 100 razors I am a Honemeister" Then some of them started offering free honing to accomplish this, which was not part of the conversation at all... Now we all know how that turned out, so yes we put an end to all that...

Now I will own up to saying the 100 razor thing,(even though they took it out of context) but after that, it was all serious BS and has no basis in fact what-so-ever....

I must have honed a bit more than 100 razors by now. I know nothing about honing. And I would feel very, very uncomfortable honing other people's razors before I've reached 1.000 razors. Maybe even more. And I'm not talking about restoration, I'm talking about touch ups. Ever tried touching up a wedge? Mirror polish? I would not touch this razor with a ten foot bargepole, although it is mine and not somebody else's.

Just some food for thought.

It sounds like a good Idea in theory, but I think that in reality when you have 100+ razors sitting in a box and have to label them to remember who is who, account for shipping costs, and have a disclaimer that says that if a razor is fubared then it's not your fault... I'd be pretty overwhelmed. It's a good Idea to do something good for people and help someone out and in the process improve your honing skills but you might have more hair on your head left if you just donate some of that time to a local organization or something. I realize how much time is really takes to hone 1 razor. I would not have that time to spare for people anxiously waiting to get their razor back.

If you'd really like to learn maybe you should just buy a few ebay razors with different grinds, shapes and sizes, hone them all them proceed to dull them all and hone them again; repeat this process 20 times and you'll be better off than you were before.

Ok, I've really missed the ball with the whole "honester" thing. I remember reading about it when I first joined last year, and I was under the impression that honesters were people who liked honing, and wanted to learn more about it?

It now sounds more to me like its some sort of weird pseudo-title that people were giving themselves to boost their image or something? Or was it an attempt to get a honing/ restoration business off the ground?

well ok sorry to open that can of worms, i must of completely missed that whole thread about things going bad. i didnt mean to get anyone going. again sorry. i am requesting that the mod of this section please delete this thread. i will make sure that i really think about what i post from now on
