Default Need info on how to hone a Kamisori razor

I have found 1 thread on how to sharpen Wakamisori but it was not so clear to me, does anyone know of a thread or a link or can provide me with a step by step on how to hone and strop a Kamisori razor it would be greatly appreciated.

I've not had to hone mine yet as I got it shave ready from SRD, but you strop it in the exact same way you strop a Western style razor.

I believe the honing is done with a 3-2 ratio using back and forth strokes, and I think you do more strokes on the flat side (ura?). I'm not totally sure about this though, so I defer to the experts..!

There are others who know much more about it than me though, so I'd wait for them to chip in on the honing.

I know there is more than one. Sired8 provided a nice compilation of jpn straight razor threads. It's around somewhere. Additionally JimR made a video.

The sharpening wakamisori thread gives you a good taste of differing opinion, which most japanese razor threads appear to provide. Ultimately that is something you will have to sort through yourself. There are pictures from professional online tutorials, translations. You only need study a little closer and get started for the basics to become clearer.

The one I have done, I followed the 10:1 ratio and it worked just fine.
There are also 7:3 and may be others that are reported to work.
You hone the face predominantly and effectively microbevel the back with a single pass or two.

I just honed my iwasaki for the first time last night. I used a Naniwa 12k. I did a 10/1 ratio. 10 up and down on the omote (flat side) and one spine leading stroke on the ura (stamped side). I did a total of 40/4-5. Then I stropped it like a western straight on my SRD premium IV. 25 on the nylon and 50 on the leather. I passed the HHT on the tip middle and heel of the blade. Shave test was very pleasant.
