nice thread guys
i use crox on a nice piece of balso wood after my 12K then 10 laps on my linen side of my 827 Illinois strop, 20 on the leather side which is pretty rough in texture compared to the final 20-30 on the SRD red latigo.
If it doesn't pass the HHT after that then I give up!
I have tried an edge of diamond spray and I have to concur with most others when I say it leaves it a bit harsh. I prefer the crox. personally.

Thanked: 286I have full range of bio paste . It can leave an esdge harsh only if you over do it. You need very little strokes. Cro.ox is most popular, but i find my coticule gives an edge as good if not better. So i don't use cr.ox that often now. You should be getting smooth sahves of 12k. One paste i realy rate and do use is TI rasoir pate, Its cheap to buy , it works exallant on canvas strop, it gives a sharper smoother shave than my cro.ox. I love the stuff and get great results.

I very rarely use pastes, CrOx or spray. I have all of them and have been known to use then on razors that just won't get to that final level. Between diamond paste and diamond spray I prefer the spray. Lynn uses the spray on hard felt for all razors and if he uses that I would say it's the best!

I guess my face must not be very sensitive because I can't tell any difference between the crox and the diamond paste/spray in terms of how they affect my shaves. With both, once I get the razor to pass the HHT, the shaves seem comparable.

Thanked: 48i would go with the crox. i have used diamond both 1 m and 1/4m and yes they are faster... sorta.but the shave off the crox is smoother and you can get a pack of killer crox here in the classifides from ChrisL for 4 bucks that will last you untill you are too old to shave anymore.

thanks for the tip Gary
I have heard of the Dovo pastes but haven't heard much about the TI.
I will look into that.
I do have a question to you about the famous coticule though, to get off subject.
I was looking into getting one because I have heard great things but after getting the NAniwa 12K and reading that the yellow?blue cotis are roughly 4k/8k grit. It sounds like you have done some honing so what is your approximation on the grit of your coti?
I read this from a website that was selling them mind you.
Thanks,
KC

Thanked: 286grit rating . all i can say is bbw 4k coticule 8k. i find this hard to relate to . i had a 4k 8k norton four years. thers no way you can compare them.
i have used both . the belgium coticule with slurry if you have a fast coticule which i do . Can cut as well as 1k to 2k manmade hone. by diluting slurry slowly you will achieve 4k right up to 8k plus with water. The edge of coticule should feel as smooth as cro.ox . Natural stones are a differant ball game. You could easily do most of your work with say coticule and finish on 12k if you wanted. or finish on coticule then ti paste. there so many ways . Up to now my best edges have been from coticule followed by ti paste . I have escher on its way and 10k naniwa . I'm going to compare both as its all good fun.
basicly i would say bbw is just slower than belgium coticule . I have sahved of both and to be onest the blue gives a much better sahve than any b4k hone could ever give me. I just did a blind test on bbw / coti and i found the blue to be the better shave. in that it was smoother of the bbw. All coticules do vary slightly but not much.
i'd recomend a coticule , there all round great hones.Last edited by gary haywood; 04-18-2010 at 05:18 PM.
