    Default New nanis are here

Hey guys i just got my new nani's in and got them lapped. I have the 1k, 5k, 8k 12k just lapped with a d8c. I have shaved straight off the 12k and was wondering what ya'lls favorite paste are? I have been thinking of ordering the dimond spray or paste and was wondering the differance in the two? or just going straight to the cromium ox?

The diamond pastes are supposed to be finer than the crox, but gives a rougher shave whereas the crox has a higher micron level but gives more of a velvety feel on the shave. If you're getting a good shave off the 12k, then all you'll probably need is a few strokes on the crox just to give it that extra ommph that you'll enjoy.

With diamond paste I like the 0.5 and with chrom-ox even though it is the same micron size it leaves a different feel so I like both for different razors depending on the feel. I only use them when I feel I need to though, not routinely. YMMV.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Default Diamond Spray v. Crox

I pretty much agree with Red. If your getting smooth shaves off the 12k, I would just do some laps on crox. Because my smoothest stone is an 8k, I do laps on 1 and .5 micron diamond on hard wool felt, and then a few on the crox on rough leather to smooth out the harshness left by the diamond. If I had a higher grit stone, I would skip the diamond spray. That being said, the diamond sprays are a great way to refresh a razor to super shard, hht status. If you need a strop too, I would highly recommend the SRD modular paddle strop. BTW, nice stone setup.

Crox is nice, either on a paddle strop or your canvas/linen hanging strop. I prefer the paddles and like to keep my hanging strops virgin. I have SRD's hard wool felt with .50 diamond spray, It's great too, I find Crox to be smoother, less irritating than the diamond. I really can't even use .25 due to irritation. SRD's .50 spray on the wool felt is really nice too...It'd be hard to pick one.

I have a bench with CrO,
    wool felt 0.25 diamond
    paddle with CeO
CeO I use always before the hanging strop, it is the finest paste out there and so far I have never had problems using it.

I have both of them. What I do after honing is 10 strokes of 0.5m diamond spray on denim and then 5 strokes of CrOx on leather.

The CrOx takes away a little of the harshness of the diamond IME, and this gives a really smooth edge to the razor.

Diamond gives me SMOOTH shaves! After the Naniwa 12k I use some 1 micron and finish on 0.1 micron diamond. It acheives the same results as CrOx but in a tenth of the time.

when i use CrO i only do maybe 10 strokes max. How is it a time saver to use diamond paste instead?

I think I may just be confused here...

That works, and works well, but does not nearly remove the scratch pattern of the previous hone, so the character of your last hone will still be there. Looking under my microscope, I need at least 30 minutes of stropping on CrOx to remove all the previous scratches. The character of the shave changes as you continue to strop on CrOx. I prefer to remove the character of the previous hone.
