    from your pictures it looks to me you may be lacking on the bevel setting stage - that black dot on the edge shouldn't be there. Using some magnification will be helpful to determine if you're sharpening good steel.
    I went back to the 1k, re-markered and went back to work. All is good except that area near the heel. That black spot is a pit and yes, a nick in the bevel. As it happens, I don't shave that far down anyway. I got a very nice shave today!
    Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.
