    Default honed my first razor

well, I got a set of Nortons ( 220/1000 4000/8000) and a bunch of help from gssixgun and actually honed my first razor yesterday, much to my surprise when I stropped and did a test patch on my face it was actually pretty smooth with only a weee bit of pulling (practice will hopefully fix that)

    Thanks Glen!

    Congratulations! You're on your way.

Also, by the way, I have to agree that Kalispell is beautiful!

starting on the 1k i did circles (about 20) twice each side and then 5 heel forward strokes and 5 x strokes and repeated the hel fore's and x's until it was popping hair heel, middle, and toe

then 3 sets of heel fore's and x's on the 4k and 8k

then about 10 swipes on a little barber hone

    then 20 laps on a cro-ox strop

then stropping on linen and an illinois 827

Good job! You have the basics, the rest is practice and experimentation. Your face is the best judge of a honed edge.

Congrats Jake,,, Glad it all worked well...

Warning here though, Honing and Restoration are addictive, and you being a Newly Wed need to make sure it is Wife first, then razors

At least for the first year anyway....

Glen, it's too late man, I'm hooked bad, like a junkie or something, I've already honed all the razors in my possesion and am trying to keep myself from taking a few more laps on the barber hone
