Default What can you shave comfortably off?

I thought I'd post a parallel thread so we can talk about the various lower grit hones we have shaved off. I think it's important that you get a comfortable shave off the hone; a shave you wouldn't mind doing every day. I also think using pastes is... well, a different sort of experiment. Any extra details you can provide about the honing process or the shave may be helpful.

I already have the thread about my shave off the Naniwa 5k.

I made a thread a while ago about shaving off the BBW and Dragon's Tongue. That was a nice shave too.

I definitely want to try more; I just need to borrow some hones.... What have you shaved off on the low end?

Comfortably being the key word here ...

For me I could live with the Norton 8k and nothing else but plain linen and plain leather, and be fine...

Anything less then that, I would consider a test, not a everyday situation...

Before i found SRP i was finished with my Japanese King 6k + leather. They were comfortable shaves.
However i'm not sure how the grit does compare to Norton as King 6k *feels* finer than Norton 8k (might be my imagination as well).
After finding this site i bought Chinese 12K and Norton 4/8 but i still do not much use Norton unless a part of a progress when i have to sharpen a razor from zero to sharp.

Yep the Norton 8K is the limit for me for everyday comfort shaves.

I can personally shave comfortably off of a Nakayama.

But seriously, I've never tried anything lower than 8k, but can shave well off of the 8k. I'm not curious enough to try lower than that when I'm already getting comfortable shaves from higher grit goodies.

As I posted in the other thread,
6k King followed by CrO gave a very god shave.
For my taste 8k is going to be the minimum though.
I do not have 8k Norton but my 8k King works fine.

Hard Arkansas and stropping on plain canvas & leather works quite well for me. The key to a comfortable shave seems to be using the strops to their maximum effect.

I used my Norton 4/8k for a good long time with fully acceptable shaves.

    Than HAD kicked in...
