Oh yea? I should have sent you my TI Damascus when I first got it years ago you'd have torn your hair out of your head after you passed 1000 strokes with little to show for it. Har Har.

after dulling a shave ready edge on glass lightly. any coticule with milky slurry that i have used will bring back edge with 60 x strokes normaly. if your slurry is a tadge to dense it will still work but you won't be able to shave arm hair , only when you add a little more water and do say 10 x stroke then you will see the razor will shave arm hair . what i do is set bevel if my thumb grips the edge , i then make slurry just like i poured milk on hone i would then do 10 20 x's and then you will see how you can shave some sort of hair. from then on dilute gradualy and the edge will get sharper, finish on water linen/leather. shave and if the shave is'nt quite there use some .5 dp or cro.ox also ti rasoir paste is realy good, if this fails your edge was way of go back to coti with slight slurry and just start again or go back to 12k naniwa for a thew laps then finish on coti if you prefer coticule edge .

My experience has been that if I go to the coti after the UF, I can feel it dulling the blade, even with my very most lightest strokes. Nothing I can describe, but it's a definate feeling of abrasivness. Plus, the sharpness tests show a bit of degradation in keenness.
(Note, this method has given me some of my best edges ever)
Remember that the scratch pattern left by more aggressive hones will tend to catch hairs better than a smoother edge--that is what you're losing when you polish out said scratch pattern--the edge will appear to move back if it wasn't already sharp enough to begin with.

FWIW, every time I get a new natural to play with, I usually spend about 2 weeks of solid experimenting before I figure out what works best on it. You just have to experiment & eventually you'll figure out your stone. I'm assuming you're using the new dilucot; the old one was very hit/miss. I rarely bothered with it--the new one works for me every time, taking maybe 10-12 minutes @ most, from bevel-setting to final finishing.

Pay attention to the pressure; you want to use some w/ this one. No-pressure works great on synthetics, but coticules are kind of a different ballgame.

Just keep playing with it. It does work.
