Yes, When your using just water, that would be considered polishing. The quarry rates BBW's at 4k, but I've seen them rated at 6k too..Like Holli said, it depends on the stone. They work pretty much like Coticules, using a slurry and such....

I would, You can try shaving off it, some do. If you have finer stones, and you do...Go for it....What I do with the BBW is 3 sets of 20, and test...That is 20 backstrokes, 20 circles (both sides) and 20 x strokes....watering a few drops as needed, usually inbetween sets...

Depending on the condition of the razor and the bbw will dicatate slurry or lack of...You can try 3 sets with slurry, watering inbetween, and do another 3 sets with just water, reducing to 10 laps per set....

    Repeat as needed....

Default Not sure, but it seems like Coti & BBW both use same technique

If that's not correct, pls disregard.

The most amazing thread I've ever seen on using a single type of stone is here. Tat2ralfy is a forum member here, and pay particular attention to his description of techniques and the links to both suppliers, vids, and the Coti user's board. It's pretty amazing. He did us all proud, here.

If it were me, I'd substitute the BBW for the 4k.

I've no experience with the Nortons but I'd try to use it after the 4k with no slurry at all to avoid the slurrydulling effect of the belgian stones and see what it does. Use a little bit more pressure for the first 20 laps or so if the blade allowes followed by light or no pressure laps. Using soap to break the surface tension of the water seems to help but is not necessary. I know more than one guy who strop on crox and go shaving after the bbw and others who claim that it does nothing useful for them so ymmv.
