Thanked: 2Hi guys,
Thanks for the insights.
I've tried the magic marker test this morning and found that after 2 passes, the marker was gone on the full length of the razor...
I'm posting a couple of pictures. I've highlighted the region that won't shave arm hair. The rest, including the toe, does shave arm hair very well.
The second picture is a closeup of the region in question. I've noticed small serrations along the blade. The edge isn't a nice uniform line, it has small ridges. I can I get rid of those ? More X patterns with rocking ?
p.s.: I am determined to hone this one myself
Thanks !

your edge is looks fine.
Try hone heel of the blade a little more and move to next stone. You should be ok.
Don't worry about small spot doesn;t cut hair yet. if it will not cut hair after 1k then we have problem.
good luck

If marker is coming off all the way down the edge then the1k should get you there. In how long? I can't say because razors are all different and it depends. Stay there until you shave all the way down the edge, it'll happen.

Thanked: 2I've finally decided to bread knife it a bit, to remove the small indentations. It worked great. After 30 more minutes on the 1k i was able to shave arm hair all the way.
I then proceeded to a pyramid on the 4k and 8k, starting at 25 strokes. Then, 100 strokes on the chinese 12k and some crox stropping.
It's definitely not shave ready though... I think I'll work on setting a pre-bevel and then create a smaller bevel. The current bevel is quite wide and I think it might be harder to sharpen because of that.

Was arm hair shaving off at skin level or popping off above skin at 1k level? You can raise slurry with a dmt 325 grit on your nortons to make them fast, fyi.
