I might try your set up and use silly putty bases to keep the edge safe and visible.
    Hi,

In my quest for a stable base with linear X and Y movements, I found that for cameras they sell a "Macro focus Rail Slider". Basically you mount the slider to a camera tripod. A heavy tripod is better or you can sand bag a light weight tripod. It allows you to turn the rack knobs to move left right and up or down. See attached images. The only part is how to mount the microscope to the slider head.

I'm thinking maybe a pipe clamp of some type since the scope I bought does not have a camera mount lug on it.

You can mount it to a flexible arm like desk lamps use also.and silly putty or playdoh if you just want a quick holder to place the blade in a certain way.

    Hi,

I guess you could do that. Will you post back an let me know how that works for you? I'm holding off buying the marco slider rails for a while.

Yes I sure will. If I forget just send me a pm. I would think I'll have it by the weekend.

I use one of these Veho's but the 200x model. I need to use an external light source as my now "old" operating system (OSX 10.4.11) doesn't access the internal LED's on the scope. Very useful tool tho.
BTW you got that at a great price.

    Hi,

I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.4. it has 8 built in leds with a intensity wheel to adjust the LED brightness. I was surprised that even the Mac software worked well. Often the Mac version of software for stuff like this. I'm it all works on my system.

I think I'm totally gonna have to jump on this bandwagon. The 100x hand-held microscope from radio shack is not cutting it anymore.

I ordered one and it came in yesterday. I have Mac and it only gives you the basic functions. Which I guess are all you reaaly need but the option to adjust lighting and contrast or whatever would be handy. I am happy with my purchase though because it can also be used as a minicam for normal closeups too.

This is the best way i have found to keep razor steady for the Veho. You can set any angle you like to get the lighting correct. A small chunk of $.89 playdoh. I bought a couple cans of it last night. That will hold me a while. I couldn't find any clay close by.
