Thanked: 1160A happy Christmas story ........
So ,when I got my bonus this year, since I am single,I went and bought myself a DMT 325 stone for lapping and a Naniwa 5k and 8k hone from SRD.They arrived, and when I got home from work I promptly lapped them. Then I took out my Dovo Best Quality blade which had already been sharpend to shave ready about six monthes back by the man himself Mr Lynn Abrams. The blade was definantly getting dull as it was pulling and such. I did 5 strokes on both stones and 5 on my 12k(taking advice from Lynn on the Wiki that the (less strokes the better). Then 5 strokes on my English bridle leather strop (leather side only). Soaked the brush and lathered up with some nice Bayrum shave soap again from good ol SRD.I proceeded on with the shave and it was comfortable smooth and after a wipe with the Alum block(which was very low sting) I splashed on some Pinaud clubman AS(Peeno, aka.smellgood) and felt awesome.Stropped and oiled the blade and put it too bed next to his brother Dovo special. What makes this story so nice ? ......It was the first time I have ever lapped a stone, honed it back to shave ready minus the bevel and, considering that my Best Quality isn't by standard as good as the Special was a very smooth comfortable shave. Now...does this mean I'm as good as Lynn or a pro honer now....absolutely not. Thanks to this site though, the Wiki and some wonderful advice from both Lynn and Don from Straight Razor designs,I was able to confidently lap, hone and get a good smooth shave(shaving part I've been doing for awhile now) my first time around. Also as a stocking stuffer if you will,I grew back my moustache after much coaxing and it's coming along nicely.I got a nice Sam Elliot style goin. My upper lip is like barb wire and was a literal a pain to shave. I was nervous about growing back the stash due to some very unkind comments from some supposed female friends? But I got a lot more positive feedback from a number of folks at work and it's been a nice addition to the ritual as far as grooming and shaping with the straight blade. All in all it was a great experience , and I really like those Naniwa hones. Merry Christmas you guys ....Nightblade. P.S. Sorry bout all the SRD plugs but.....They have been nothing but good experiences for me so I gotta pay my respects.

Thanked: 993Ahhhh, who doesn't love a good Christmas story.
I too have had a number of positive experiences with SRD. I enjoy dealing with them. I only wish that I lived in the continental 48 (I live in Canada), so that I could lower my shipping costs!
It's nice that you were able to bring your razors back to shave ready too. I like the feeling of shaving with something that I had a hand in.
Congrats,

Congrats!!! Lynn and Don are a class act and have proven time and again to be an asset to us all.
Personally, I have never had anything but the best advice and assistance from everyone on the SRP. This is a testament to Lynn and Don and everyone else who is involved with this website.“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

Thanked: 62I would like to echo everything being said. This Forum has been a endless source of info and entertainment. It has given me a interesting and useful hobby. I once PM'ed Lynn with a question about hones and was answered promptly with direct info (nothing wishy washy) and with respect. What I am saying is thank all of you for your patience, good nature and knowledge. And happy holidays to everyone.
