Thanked: 286new ti's chipping
ant one else who has the new ti razor 135 steel, noticed that they tend to be prone to micro chips only tiny?
i honed mine on coticule shaved real nice but formed slite micro chips after first shave. i'm thinking of try ing to finish on some paste to may be solve issue . may be that will prevent chipping .any recomemndations i'd like to hear.

Thanked: 13246Yes, they can be "chippy" along with the Wackers, Revisors, and those big huge Friodurs...
My goto hones for those are exactly what Kingfish said, the Naniwas seem to get the smoothest edge out of all of them....
Obviously the flip and the stroke can make a huge difference here too, those last finishing laps on any stone/hone with these razors you need to slow way down and get really gentle...
Hope that helpsLast edited by gssixgun; 12-11-2010 at 07:21 PM.

I like the Nani's too, for just that reason, They are soft, and pretty fast...
We have assumed control !

That's a first. I've honed dozens of them on my Shaptons and I have never seen one of the new TI 135 microchip. Weird. Wonder if it's a certain batch they made that is more prone to chip. They take a wonderful edge.

I don't check under a scope, but I really really like the way the new TI's shave (even though I still don't really like the razors themselves... go figure). I've been doing them on Naniwas and finishing on my Thurry.

Gary,
I use the 1,3,8,12k Naniwa progression for my TI C135 (one half-hollow, the other full-hollow), finishing on 0.5 micron diamond, then CrOx.
Under 20x mag, they show no chipping - I haven't looked at higher mags, so cannot say for certain that no chipping full stop exists !
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 286i have five new ti's all very nice looking razors and i love the edge on these ti's. when i checked my le grelot from new that came with a thew tiny chips in the edge . i rehoned that its now one of my favorites.it was while shaving with new shefield ti it shaved real nice but i could sense and feel there was some thing just lightly scratching my skin. there was a couple of tiny micro chips.i spotted with 30x loop . wheather they acured while shaving or after honing i'm not sure . they have honed no probs and i have double checked the edge. it looks fine.
my stroke is pritty good and light when needed , on my coticules. may be this is just a one of . I no a chap who had similar problems with a couple of ti silver wings . having said that my ti limited edittion silver wing has been fine so far.
i own 5 ti's now, i must admit i love the edges from this new steel . i find the edges very smooth.
