    Have you lapped the stone?
    If you had a long honing session it can be full of metal and tape -stuff. When I was struggling with my wedge, I noticed that it was better to work if you have a clean yellow stone.

    I know Shapton for sure advises against it. Many synthetics have resins binders that could degrade in the alkali from the soap. Ones that are not resin binded might fare better, but I would think twice about it.
