    Default Am I missing something.

ok, i have worked this razor on my 1k, 5, 8, and escher. and still i feel alot of pulling and tugging on my face when i shave. i have gone back and worked on the bevel some more and ran up thru the lot. and again, still pulling and tugging, so i throw this out, am i missing something, or are these heavy blades like this one more of a workout to get shaveable. Any one with suggestions will be helpful. the pic is of the blade in question

picture is after honing or before honing? have you used tape? if yes how many layers and name of the tape will help.

Big heavy wedges are normally harder to hone. They take longer than your hollows..
As Sham said, Tape will help. Use Scotch 33+, I'd suggest two layers on that bad boy. Make sure you can pop hair after you set the bevel.

Yes, you've effectively done nothing when you went back to the stones.

If anything, you go from no tape to adding a layer in order to create a microbevel. The way you did it, you were basically working on knocking down the sides of your bevel, but not really working on the very edge yet.

    Does that make any sense?

When you hone with tape, you increase the angle. If you go back with less (or no) tape, you are decreasing the angle so, you have to completely undo everything you did with the tape in order to start improving keenness. If you have a microscope is handy, you can see the effect that I'm talking about.

I think you should start with 1 layer of tape to undo what you've done, then work on your progression up.

well, i put one layer of tape back on it and work it again, slowly on all three stone, and then the escher, this time she shaved nicely, and to be honest the shave test i used with this one wasnt really fair, i use it to shave my head, and that was a weeks worth of growth, no tugging so i guess it will get a fair shave test on thursday morning

    this is a good news.
This is what i do hone the wedges similar to your blade. if i start with 3 layers of tape i keep 3 layers of tape all the way.
This approach may give to person a little trouble buy changing angle more then you want. what it does while you shave blade will be closer toward to your face then usual.
if you want to change angle then you can take 1 layer of tape out and set a new bevel start all other. this will be a lot easier( less metal to remove.)
