Chinese 12k slurry experiment
I bought a chinese 12k a few weeks ago and have been playing around with it and trying to learn the stone. Using it after the 8k Norton. I could certainly see a difference. I have read about slurry making and from what I gathered the best slurry stone would be from the same stone. I hesitated to cut up my new toy. But finally I did. I am glad I did. I don't have any great proclimations of what to do with slurry or how to do it, but if any one is hesitating the same thing I say go for it. Now I have to figure out thick and thin slurrys etc.

My general experience with slurry has shown that, generally for me, it is best to only use a light slurry when at the finishing stage. But playing is always the fun part.

Thanked: 4942The fun thing with slurries is playing around with them. I continually use a generic Nagura, Coticule slurry stones, Japanese slurry stones and the diamond plates. The Chinese 12K was one of those stones we played with on the one stone honing going from very thick slurry down to water eventually and it definitely produced shave ready razors. Not as consistent as some other stones, but it definitely worked.
Have fun,
Lynn
