Thanked: 13245I just got this question, on my website too, I personally haven't used the higher grit Kings, so I am pretty reluctant to make recommendations on anything I haven't actually used to hone straight razors with... Next time I am in Spokane I might pick them up just to mess with them... I am very happy with the 1k it works just fine

4) None of the above
I just remembered you previously said you spent 2 hours trying to set a bevel.
Dishing is very real with King stones & I suspect you were working with a non flat stone long before 2 hours were up.
Kings will cut adequately with a healthy slurry & it needs to be refreshed regularly to keep it aggressive. Also more pressure will not help you cut faster but will deform the stone.
btw this must have been a seriously bad edge to spend 2 hours bevel setting ? ... Even with a King.
Do you have a diamond plate to lap & create slurry ?. A cheap alternative is to buy another King & use it against the other. I never owned a 1k King but used to use an 800 against my 1200. Both created adequate slurries for either stone. IIRC the King Nagura that comes with the 8k can be used in a pinch but not so aggressive as other means already mentioned. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
