    Default Bargain Basement Slurry Maker

I wanted to try using a diamond plate for making a slurry on my 4K/8K Nortons, but more importantly, on my Chi-Com stone.

Almost everyone here uses a DMT 325, but for a test, I wanted something cheap. Really cheap. So, I went to Academy Sports, no dice. Then I thought of Harbor Freight Tools. Bingo! I grabbed this set of three diamond plates for $15.00. Any of them would probably work, but I tried the finest, a 360 grit first. They're thin, under 1/4", but work great! I'll think of something, like a drawer pull, I can epoxy to the bank to give me something to grasp.

Instead, you might want to epoxy them to a board in order to help keep them flat.

epoxy to thick plexiglass, and then insert in an adjustable stone holder? Just and idea.

After trying these, I have to abandon the idea and use the remaining plates for sharpening the lawnmower blade.

I never expected the quality of a DMT, but after a few uses, the hones had actually removed the diamond coating from the plates. I ordered a Norton prep stone to use for slurry. Oh well, a lesson learned.

    Hi Wayne,
It may be a little off topic, however, I must ask you what blade is the Sheffield Shavers emblem in your signature line based on?
Is it a particular manufacturer or style?
I'm a newbie and want to get a blade this shape to restore and use.
    Thanks,
    Geoff
PS I have a set of these as well and they work well on all my hones

Prep stone works well, but use it sparingly past 8k. It feels a bit counter-productive.

DMT makes a few really small products that are quite cheap.

Recently I've been using a coti slurry stone on my Chosera 1k, Norton 4k and 8k to help keep the stones clean and add a little cutting speed as well.

It appears to be a large barber's razor, but after that, I've no clue. I'd say that all of the razor manufactors made a large barber's razor. But, be prepared to shell out big dollars. A really nice one closed on eBay for over $300 recently.
