I have muted square and round pointed razors. Muting doesn't change the shape of the point but merely very slightly dulls the edge in that area. You really cannot detect any change in the point or profile of the razor, but your earlobe will thank you. I've gotten into muting my points a tad because I've recently strarted speed shaving again.

You have every right to change it. It's your razor -- a tool for shaving -- even with its beautiful scales. W & B made many, many razors, and there's no shortage of them.

I have muted the spike on every razor in my regular rotation. Better to change the razor, than to have the razor change my face.

Straight-razor shaving is hard enough without worrying about a spike point. [Maybe that should be my signature line . . . ? ]

It's difficult to see or guage from a photo, but doesn't that nice razor look like it's already been 'shortened' to anyone else? The scales and the thickness vs the width just indicate to my eye that it used to be a bit longer at some point. Just wondering...

Anywho, I'm in the 'don't round it' camp. If need be mute the sharp point for a while and in a few months you might find you're able to use it with no problem.

I probably actualy should have bought a round point, not two square points, but I just really liked the scales on this one. I won't be able to get another, I can't afford it. Guess I'll have to put up with it or maybe swap the Burrell?

That's quite funny (razor changing face), I'll consider muting possibly but not rounding...

I haven't got it yet, but the ad says it's 3" long and a 7/8" wide. Might ask the seller if he can mute the point...

+1 It is after all your razor, and your face...

I just did one today for someone that wanted a razor to shave his neck without cutting himself to death, so he had me shorten the blade to 2 inches and then round it out.. I re-fit the scales so that now the razor looks like it was made that way ...
Collectible razors are one thing, shaving razors are a whole other ball game....

    Thanks gssixgun,
I will see how I go with it, it actually looks like the blade itself is not 100% straight, the Burrell I have (below) IS 100% straight and the point is VERY square, and I still have a nose and two ears (so far)! I actually think two inches sounds pretty short. Dulling, rather than rounding the point sounds like a compromise...
