I'm talking about Thuringen. It seems to me there are even some antique stones made by them.

That's correct. The German guy I was corresponding with got 2 pre-WW2 ones from an old man. The newer ones look a bit coarser but the slurry looks identical under an electon microscope, he mailed me pictures. He is getting identical results when using the old or the new Thuringian. He is preparing a thread on them to be posted later on nassrasur.com.
Apparently the quarry was filled with rubble by the Eastern German communist regime. The stones sold by Manufactum are a pre-WW2 lot they started to sell recently.

Kees, can we just order them from the site and request US delivery? At that price I'm willing to experiment.

you can click Manufactum International. I have been reading the English pages and it looks like they ship world wide. They want you to register, they accept Visa. They don't ship orders of less than 25 euro's so you need to order some additional items. I ordered Proraso and some UHU glue which was on special offer.

I remember Randydance bought one or two Thuringers of them so you may want to ask him how he did it.

I don't but the German guy I have been corresponding with and who did some fact finding on the Thuringers took the pics or had them taken.

Shipping on one of the Thurigen stones is 18.50 Euro acording to the e-mail I got from them this morning.

Joe, any suggestions what to lap this stone with? I am now referring to the stone on the paddle. It has some hard inclusions that start to stick out a bit. Sooner or later I fear they will cause problems.
I don't have all the sophisticated specialist honing paraphernalia of a true honemeister though. I do have a few Arkansas stones, and ordinary sandpaper. Would they be useful?
