If Lynn honed your razor, why are you honing after your 4th shave?

Do you want your razor HHT sharp or shave sharp? Note a shave ready razor will not necessarily pass the HHT.

Have you read any of the wiki?

Why did you make 100 laps on the 8K?

So many questions, but it all comes down the fact that you should have posted here before trying to hone a shave ready razor after the 4th shave. At that stage a routine stropping would have bought the edge back. Chances are it is now overhoned and needs a trip to a pro to correct.

Seems like you were so caught up on the HHT that you have gone and wrecked your edge. Many here will tell you that the HHT is a parlour trick and others will say it is meaningless unless calibrated.

EDIT - Glen you beat me to it.

SECOND EDIT - I read your response. I very much doubt you are going to take Lynn's edge to the next level, especially with an 8K Norton. I say this because I know of Lynn's wealth of knowledge and experience and I can see your lack thereof.

Of course I tried the HHT after I got my razor back from Lynn. It did not pass. But it was shave ready.

The only razor that I've gotten to pass HHT was a razor that had an improperly set bevel. That should tell you the relevence of the HHT right there.

I just shaved last night, so my next shave will be in 4 or 5 days. I'll post he results right after.

My two hairs to test on are mine, normal which hair, amd my fiancee brush hairs, thin. Neither will pass. On the middle of my razor the with very very get slight pressure he hair will POP, but sill I have to be pressing with my finger, cheating. And the sides aren't doing that. Obviously It's not over honed.....yet. and I'm sure the next shave will be fantastic. BUT you all keep saying its a parlor trick! Will tricks have secrets! Why doesn't someone here post that secret? lol. That what I was asking for. :P you guys are so funny wig how worked up you get over this stuff, I love it (:

There is no secret to it. It really is irrelevant to how the razor will shave. I have some razors that will pass a hanging hair test and others that don't, yet they all shave me equally well. I agree with what the others are saying..if you got a razor honed by Lynn then you needn't have messed with it after 4 shaves. I've also had razors that pass the HHT and shaved horribly..there is such a thing as too sharp an edge.

Jesus....my spelling is atrocious. It looks like I hadn't passed the third grade lol.

Someone asked if I looked at wiki, of course I read everything on wiki. And according to wiki if your blade is HHT ready but will not shave its because the blade is too thin and its now rolling.

I understand that its not worth the effort because it doesn't mean anything, but I'm just asking....as long as I'm determined to do something stupid, you could at least give me advice on how not to Eff it up. Is everyone on here really so caught up in saying no that not one person will give me guidance advise on how to, instead?

If you have to post the question, you obviously haven't honed very long & don't know what you are doing. I am sorry if that sounds a bit gruff, but a fact is a fact & no since sugar coating. First and foremost, Lynn oils his razors when he sends them out. No razor will pass HHT this way. A razor "shouldn't" need to be rehoned or even touched up on a barber hone for quite some time unless you have rolled the edge while stropping. If you did, that's ok...we have all done it. If you did roll the edge, sometimes you can get it back with a barbers hone, but more often than not it may need to be taken to the stones. FWIW, I don't think I have ever taken a razor 100x on a stone other than a bevel setter like a 1K on a razor that was in BAD shape. Maybe on a Charnley Forrest or a PHIG...but those are fine and slow cutting stones.

BTW, I HATE HHT if you haven't' figured it out. There is no "next level" if a razor is a smooth shaver, just parlor tricks. That's another fact to hang your hat on. Most folks who are concerned with the HHT is those who haven't much experience under their belt unfortunately. Do yourself a favor and come back to the HHT when you have about 6 months under your belt...you will thank me.
