    Default I finally got it!

Well probably as good as I can get it. I was given 3 razors in March and only 1 was really shave ready. So I bought a set of hones from SRD Nani's, and went to work. Well I really botched the Case good, circles weren't my thing. (I will have to send it to a pro) So back to the Wiki.
I worked on my Henckles and got it to shave arm hair after 1k and then to the 4k and 8k (pyramid)
then as Lynn suggested 12k, .5 diamond spray on felt, roughed leather and the leather. And it shaved and I got a pretty good shave but it still wasn't quite right. I just chalked it up to learning, but after a few months it still wasn't great. So I looked at the edge thru a loop and compared it to the Simmons that has been well loved. And there it was the edges weren't even close, I could still see what looked like sand blasted finish on most of the edge. So back to the hones. It took me forever to get a good bevel set 1k (pro-honing is well, well worth it) then again 4-8 pyramid and so on.
And OMG what a difference. I finally got to do a south to north pass that didn't catch or scare the crap out of me. Even got some places BBS for a few hours. It only gets better from here.
Thanks to everyone who has given me advise and encouragement these past few months. Cartridges are now banned to International travel only from now on. Thats an even longer story for a different thread.

Great honing story, James-Doesn't it feel great when you finally "get it"? If you haven't already, I highly recommend Glenn/aka Gssixgun's honing videos-Sham's too.

Now we'll both probably go back to head-scratching on our first smiling wedge! aaron

    2nd that!!

I've also found it so true that getting the bevel set 'Right' on the lower stones makes all of the difference in the world! Also spending enough time as you advance through the stones.

I did a little experiment. I stropped and test shaved after each stone. The razor I tested was taken all the way to a 1k, then I checked to see what it felt like. The same with the 4k/8k and 12k. I found it really gave me a feel for how it was coming. I only did the test once, but I learned a lot from it!

I'm glad that you've finally got the personal satisfaction that you deserve! It really does feel good doesn't it!!

I'd only honed full to near full blades and my great grandfather's near full wedge needed some work. I was really reluctant to try to hone her. However I decided to give it a go! It took Forever!! Well at least forevever compared to the other razors I'd done. I'm getting Great Shaves! I doubt if I could have pulled it off if Glen (GSSIXGUN) hadn't have laid the foundation down when he restored it! Thanks again Glen! Looking forward to the Spokane WA Meet!

Oh! here's what Glen did for Wat's W&B!

    Smooth Shaving!!

Big congrats on your honing. It only gets better.

For what it's worth, that Case might be the hardest steel you'll ever put to a hone. That does slow it down.
