Thread: What's the deal with tape?

Jimbo, that's exactly what my barber friend called it. A Belgium stone. That's what I usually refer to it as well. I also know he was never taught to reset a bevel on a razor and neither were any of the other older barbers I've talked to. If a razor lost its bevel, they considered it done and got a new one. I'm sure that's why we find so many razors still in decent shape.

Yes, either that or if it was available to them they sent it out to be "reground"! I think old time barbers would be amazed at what we do with straights nowadays.

My old barber mentor told me he used to buy straight razors ten at a time for about three to four dollars apiece. It was cheaper just to buy a new one rather than send the old one out to be reground.

Now that is what I call a land of milk and honey!
