Oh! Oh! Oohh!!! That's just what I thought! I think. Darn sure sounds good though. Tools!! ARGH!!! More tools, more hones, more razors! That's what I'm talkin about. "exemplary specimen of humanity by your demonstration of knowledge, taste, and skill.". ARGH!!! You know, she ain't gonna buy a bit of this!!!
Good try though!
Best Regards,
Howard

Well I can't dispute that, in reality. But the fun is in poking "fun" at our selves for the desire to have and experience all of the different ways to have, maintain, use, and share in the experience of straight razors. Actually, one razor, one strop, and maybe a swaty hone, and none of us, save the honemeisters need anything else. But if that's it, I'm a safety razor shaver. I do this for the challenge in all of the aspects of the experience. I want to see first hand what each razor's metal will take and achieve, and on as many hones as I can. Then experience the difference in the shave produced. I want to experience the difference between manufacturers and custom artisans, etc.. I guess in the final analysis, it's what can I learn, achieve, and accomplish that makes this enjoyable. I think, also, having followed and enjoyed your posts that it may be a lot the same way for you.
As to my wife. I frequently make claims of "what a wife might think", many times based on the experiences of others, and for the humor. However, my wife knows about every purchase I contemplate, or make, and all of them are with her knowledge and approval. And, besides, it's hard to find a place for my razors amongst all the space she takes up with her blasted shoes.
Anyway, if I sometimes take it a little over the top with the humor, please remember, it's for fun, and a lot of times very close to the reality of the whole thing, in the way, I guess, I see it. I don't mean to offend, and I apologize if I have. Hoping all the Members of SRP and their Families a Very Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Prosperous New Year!!! Fondest Regards, Howard

You have a good set up. It's true, you really don't need anything else. If anything, and at the risk of being redundant. I too would vote for the Naniwa 12k. The Chinese 12k at woodcraft is also a good stone, overlooked because it's a slow finisher, but so are most of the high end J nats I see anyway...
Other naturals are Coticules, Thuringian/Escher (my favorite btw) Charnley and J nats to name a few popular ones. All are expensive, and somewhat rare.
Coti's, well, There's an entire club dedicated to them. Too many veins, too many choices. Some are slow, some are fast, etc, etc, etc....You'd need to do some research.
Escher/Thuringians are no longer for sale, you'd have to find one on Ebay or the classifieds, but if you could find an Escher, I'd grab it. I think they're great stones. Same with Charnley Forest. Now J nats, we have a few vendors running around here. There's so much info on J nats, We could have night school on them, possible college courses. Understanding the Japanese language and Kanji is a plus. Lot's of choices, variables....
So, for now, I'd stick with the Naniwa 12k..Last edited by zib; 12-18-2011 at 03:10 PM.
