Sorry guys,
Not to sound like a stick in the mud, but I think this thread should be kept as close to the hones as possible. Personal opinion is fantastic, and it makes for a lively discussion, however, I feel that's for another thread.
I feel that this one is for pushing the honing envelope.
Just my view. Am I out to lunch?

I just wanted it to be clear that this isn't about taking an inferior product and making it useful. This stone has a long history, and it can be a fantastic edition to anyone's arsenal. Yes, on topic from here out :angel:

Ok, ok, I can't fight the urge any longer...I'm in! It will be very hard to only use 2 razors for an entire month, but this is going to be way too much fun to miss out on. I watched the lapping video, then went and lapped my 4/8. I picked up 2 blades (I'll post what they are with pics tonight) for this event. I wanted 2 blades that I'm not familiar with to make this even more fun!

Ok, I just did a practice run. It's funny how it takes longer to soak the stone than it does to hone the razor... That was dead easy. Hanging Hair Test confirms that my practice Double Arrow is shave ready.
Here's what I did:
Dulled the razor on glass to kill the edge
2 sets of 40 circles with moderate pressure
1 set of 20 circles with zero pressure
10 x strokes with no pressure
Test arm hair, not ready
1 set of 10 circles
test arm hair, worse (lol)
another set of 10 circles no pressure
15 x strokes with no pressure
shaving arm hair well
10 circles on 8K followed by 10 x strokes (all with no pressure at all)
5 stropping motion strokes on 8K
60/60 linen/leather
Hanging hair test showed an immediate pop. The way it popped, I can tell it will be slightly harsher than I like, but with a feather light touch, I should be able to shave comfortably... I definitely need to practice again before Sunday, but I am excited to be reacquainted with the Norton 4/8 :rock:
