I'm not Maxi, but I've had the pleasure of putting a bottle of that Collingwood in my belly and it was a great pleasure.

I shave tested both the WB and the Dovo tonight.
My results are: The Dovo is winning.
It was smooth, comfortable, and irritation free. It really was great.....I was completely happy with this shave. I was actually thinking while I was using it "Man, why don't I do 8k's more often, I like this...."
The WB had a bit of pulling and tugging. I'll go back and tweak it a tad, and see what I come up with.
I realize this is premature, since there's only one shave test in the data files.....but THIS is why it's totally ok to buy a brand new Dovo, hone it on the Norton and start learning how to straight shave.
Here are my 2 razors for JaNorton. Top one is a WM Elliott made in Germany (bought at an antique store just for JaNorton), bottom one is a Meteor works made in Solingen (bought off ebay just for JaNorton).

In preparation, I made sure to kill the edge on the WM Elliott by running it across my bench vise handle. I then cleaned it up & took it to the 4k/8k. My Method was as follows:
Tape spine, raise slurry on 4k Norton w/ 325 DMT
40 circles w/ pressure
10 x strokes w/ pressure
10 x heel leading strokes straight up and down the hone (no x)
<TNT passed "at this point in time":w >
Rinse stone, made new slurry on 4k Norton w/ 325 DMT
40 circles w/ pressure
10 x strokes w/ pressure
10 x heel leading strokes straight up and down the hone (no x)
<Arm hairs starting to pop>
Rinse stone (no slurry this time)
40 circles no pressure
10 x strokes no pressure
5 heel leading strokes straight up and down the hone (no x)
<shaves arm hair nicely>
Change tape, move to 8K Norton
10 no pressure x strokes on water only
10 heel leading strokes straight up and down the hone (no x) on water only
<covered 8K Norton with shaving lather>
10 no pressure x strokes on lather
10 heel leading strokes straight up and down the hone (no x) on lather
<easily cuts hair above skin level on arm, edge finished>
Stropped 60 laps on SRD Premium 1 leather only
I did a 2 pass shave and the results were good. A nice shave, I prefer a bit of a smoother edge, we'll see what can be done during JaNorton to improve upon the smoothness. The Meteor Works razor will go to the hones today.
Thanks
Glenn
So I see a bunch of hollow ground razors but not many framebacks or wedge-1/4 hollow. I chose for this reason my true frameback and 1/4 hollow. Anyone else choose the road less traveled???
Also, how many people will be posting on SOTD? It would be nice to have a central location for seeing and hearing the results. Any thoughts?

Ok... I have my razors honed. I didn't make a video for that, but I did make one on the coticule Raithskar brought. I may make another one.
I'm using a Puma Inox 5/8 and a Revisor Seamann 6/8. In the coticule video, I made an observation that was pretty interesting, at least to me. I soak the Norton 4k/8k for about 15 minutes. In the time that stone was soaking, I honed up another razor from bevel set to finished on his coticule that I had seen for the first time just before. However, when he was working on a razor, I honed my Seamann for JaNorton from start to finish on the Norton before he had the bevel set on his coticule. So, there are trade offs, and both are fun. Today was a fun day of honing and teaching.
Fantastic! I got a Norton 4K/8K combo last year along with the lapping stone and promptly destroyed a good razor. Sent it out and had it fixed and it's been my favorite ever since. I've been meaning to learn how to do this and I think this may be my big chance. I've got enough spare razors in good shape that I think I can afford to play with one. Count me in!
